The PvP Worlds Guide

PvP

Foreword

Yeah, Player versus Player(PvP) isn't listed as a skill. But it is used so much and there are so many tricks to it that I would consider it a skill, and one of the more fun parts of Runescape. So here you are, on the road to becoming a good Player Killer(PK). This guide will give you some helpful information and tips, but this doesn't mean that you will own everyone you meet. If you are serious on becoming a PKer, then you will die along the way. Just bring in items that you know you can afford to lose. As a PKer, you have 3 choices of how you want to PK. A warrior, a mage, or a ranger. All 3 have their advantages, and the most widely used one is the warrior. This guide is based on non-member PvP, since after PvP worlds came out I wasn't a member. PKing in non-member is also a lot safer, but in member worlds of course you can expect a lot better drops.

The Combat Triangle

As you already know about the 3 types of combat (melee, mage, range), use this to your advantage. Here is how things work:

Melee vs. Range: Melee has the advantage. Arrows don't hit as often on armor, and weapons go through range armor a lot easier.

Range vs. Mage: Range has the advantage. Range armor has a high magic defense, and arrows pierce a mage's armor/clothing.

Mage vs. Melee: Mage has the advantage. Melee armor has a negative magic defense, meaning mage will hit higher on melee armor. The mage has a little less of an advantage here compared to the other situations because mage armor generally doesn't have high melee defense. Melee weapons can hit a lot on mages, even though the reverse is also true.

Things to avoid:

Mage vs. Range: Suicide. Range armor has a high magic defense as said earlier, and arrows will pierce the mage easily. As the mage, you will see a lot of splats of 0 damage and low hits. The ranger will most likely own you. Eat food and run to safety.

Melee vs. Mage: Not the best idea, especially if your opponent is level 40 combat or above. It means they probably have 40+ Magic, and that means that they can use better spells. Don't be shocked when they start hitting 13 after 13 or higher. Still, if you are higher combat with good attack and strength, the kill might go your way. But don't think that the odds are in your favor.

Range vs. Melee: This is probably one of your least concerns. As a PKer I would know. The ranger will generally not hit that much less, but the only concern is that melee would hit higher on you. The odds aren't in your favor, but if your target is a pure with low defense, they could most possibly get owned.

Now you know the combat triangle. As I said before, use this to your advantage when fighting an opponent. There are of course exceptions to the Combat Triangle. Things will not always go your way, but the odds will be in your favor.

Skills

You can be a pure, or you can have even combat skills. A lot of people in PvP are pures, and a lot are average attackers. It's about a 50/50 division. Just know that pures especially own against their opposite faction in the combat triangle. A ranger pure(for example, a lvl 35 with 50+ Range) can kill a warrior a lot faster. I would have to recommend pure over average. Here is what I think a pure's skills should look like:

Warrior: 40-50 Attack, 55+ Strength, 15-25 Defense, 10-16 Prayer

Mage: 20-30 Defense, 40-50+ Magic, 10 Prayer(Attack and Strength should stay at 1!)

Ranger: 20-30 Defense, 45-55+ Range, 10 Prayer(Attack and Strength should stay at 1!)

Some would say that this isn't a pure because there is Defense. But let's face the facts: If you are combat 45 with 1 Defense, then you will get owned, unless your target can never reach you.

Tips and Tricks

Food: For PKers combat 60 and below, use salmon. About 16 in your inventory if you have lower defense, and around 13 or so if you have around 27-30. It is cheap, and heals 9 hp. The strategy for using food is when you are around 20 or below health, it's time for you to heal. If you aren't afraid of your opponent killing you in the 15 hp range, at least eat by the time you are down to 10 health. You can easily die when your opponent gets a lucky hit in the 10-15 hp range. Delay food eating as long as possible until the 20 or below hp range, because eating food delays your attack by 1 or 2 swings, and gives your opponent a few easy hits on you.

Armor-Warriors:

Full Mithril(or Adamant if affordable with 30+ Defense), Amulet of Defense OR Amulet of Strength

For warriors with 20-30 Defense, use Mithril, unless you can afford to buy a lot of Adamant replacements. I would recommend using a Rune Scimitar or any of the Rune weapons. Try not to use Adamant because it hits a lot less than Rune, even though it is a lot cheaper(that's the reason why it's a lot cheaper). Use a Defense Amulet or a Strength Amulet. Here is my tip: If you are lacking defense, use the Defense Amulet. If you are lacking strength, use the Strength Amulet. Whichever skill is lower than the other. The Defense Amulet is a lot more common of a drop than the Strength one(I haven't gotten one yet; and I do a lot of PKing). I wouldn't recommend using a cape or boots, but vambraces(preferably Green D'hide if you have 40+Ranged) are a big help for magic defense.

Armor-Mages:

Wizard Hat, Top, Blue Skirt, and Amulet of Magic, Shield(if you want defense) OR Druidic Mage Hood, TopBottom. and Amulet of Magic, Shield(if you want defense)

Mages are the least common class in PvP. At high magic levels, they can do incredible damage to warriors. At level 35 you get Fire Bolt, which is good for moderate damage, dealing up to 12 hp. At level 59 you get Fire Blast, which is the best nonmember battle spell, and deals up to 16 hp of damage! Use the Wizard Hat, Top, and Blue Skirt if you are a lower level PKer. These stats = +5 Magic Defense, and +5 Magic Attack. If you want to pay more, buy the Druidic Mage Hood, Top, and Bottom (0). These stats = +6 Magic Defense, and +6 Magic Attack. Not that much better, since it's only a +1 difference. The requirements to wield are 10 Defense + 20 Magic. Both of these sets give NO normal defense besides magic. But with a staff equipped, it gives a little defense. Use the Amulet of Magic. This is a MUST. It gives +10 more magic attack. Very helpful! Whatever you do, NEVER wear any ranged armor on a mage. It lowers your magic attack tremendously.

Amor-Rangers:

Coif, Studded Body, Green D'Hide Legs, Amulet of Defense OR Amulet of Power

Rangers are a little less common than warriors in PvP. These guys are one of the most dangerous against pure accounts. They have average melee defense, and excellent magic defense, along with good ranged defense. They are one of the most dangerous PKers, and that means you can be a dangerous PKer too.

Weapons-Warriors:

(pick any of these, don't use all of them)

If 30-39 Attack: Adamant Longsword, Adamant Scimitar, Adamant 2h, Adamant Battleaxe

If 40+ Attack: Rune Scimitar(recommended) , Rune Longsword, Rune 2h, Rune Battleaxe

Weapons-Mages:

(pick any of these, don't use all of them)

Staff of Air, Staff of Water, Staff of Earth, Staff of Fire(recommended, for fire spells)

Use Fire Bolt or higher to own enemies. 50+ Magic is recommended.

Weapons-Rangers:

Maple Shortbow, Accurate or Rapid attack style

If your opponent obviously has low defense or is wearing no armor, use Rapid. If they have Adamant+ armor or obviously good defense, use Accurate or Rapid, but Accurate would be recommended. 50+ Ranged is highly recommended. Use Mithril Arrows, or if you want to really be good use Adamant(note that these cost more than 2x more).

Tactics:

Safe Spots:If you are a ranger or a mage, try to find something you can shoot over, like a wall or a plant, but your melee opponent can't get to you. Hide there, and fire away. Your opponent will have to click on you twice, and you can either face them head on or run away to another safe spot. This planning is especially critical for mages, rangers won't need it as often. If you are using melee, then whenever your opponent is running away and there are obstacles, right click on their name and keep pressing attack. That way when you get stuck, it won't be for long.
Retreating to Safety: Run in the direction of where the PvP safe area is(for example, inside Lumbridge Castle). Try to eat often if you are afraid your opponent will kill you fast. Click eat, then farther on the minimap. Go through trees, around bushes, and around walls. Your opponent will get annoyed and they will lose track of you and get stuck. Once you are in safety, there is still a 10 second countdown, however, and your opponent can still attack you(and vice versa) in those ten seconds. So run as far as you can away from them.

Knowing when to bank: Once you get a good mithril, any adamant or any rune drop or better(not addy/rune arrows) , go to the bank immediately! They will be the most common good PvP drops, since corrupt dragon is extremely rare, so you should bank it. Once you are lower than 5 food, I would say to head on over and get some more.

Who to Attack: If you are a pure and there is a guy with Rune armor, don't get in a fight with them. They will hit an average amount on you, and you will hit less frequently and usually 0s. Run to safety. If there is somebody with lower defense than you or with no armor on, go in for the kill. Your good levels will own them when they have no defense. Try to avoid getting in fights with people 7+ combat levels higher than you. 7 combat levels can mean a lot of levels higher than you. If there is somebody lower than you, don't be afraid and attack.

Drops Worth Picking Up

Food: Salmon, trout, cakes, sardines, lobsters, tuna, any other food better than shrimp

Armor/Weapons: Mithril of any sort, Adamant of any sort, Rune of any sort, any armor or weapon if you need to wear/wield some, Anything corrupt(bank IMMEDIATELY, try logging out and going to Non-PvP world if nobody is around) Amulet of Defense, Amulet of Magic(if you are a mage), Amulet of Strength(bank unless warrior)

If there is a good drop you think you would pick up that is not listed on here, then go ahead and pick it up. You don't have to abide by this, it is just guidelines. I might be adding more to this guide when I think about something to add, but for the most part, it is done.

The Fishing Guide

Fishing

Levels 1-20(these beginning levels are a little boring)

You will need a Fishing Net.(there are some by the fishing tutor south of Lumbridge)Now go south of Lumbridge and you will find a netting spot. Start catching shrimp until level 5. Then get about 105-205 Fishing Bait and an ordinary Fishing rod. They can be bought from the fishing stores all around Runescape. Now head over to either Musa Point(considered Karamja), Lumbridge River, or Barbarian Village and start fishing until level 20. Good job so far!

Levels 20-30(these levels will go a little faster)

You will need a Fly Fishing Rod and some Feathers. I recommend you get around 200. Now I suggest going to the river by Barbarian Village and start fishing trout until you reach level 30 fishing.(Barbarian Village isn't the only place to Fly fish, but I highly recommend it because if you go to the helmet shop nearby, there is an everlasting fire inside that is very useful for cooking your food. Then you should walk or canoe up to Edgeville to bank your Trout.)You can now catch Salmon! Important:Fly Fishing is the fastest way to get 99 fishing, but it is not the way that will make you the most profit.

Levels 30-60(also works with 30-68)

You will be Fly Fishing again and I recommend in the same spot.(by Barbarian Village) This is a long level stretch and to get from level 30-60 you will need around 8,000 Feathers and to get to level 68 from 60 you will need about another 3,000.(11,000 Feathers total)I put 30-60 and 30-68 up there because I think at level 60 you can catch Lobsters fast enough, and I wanted to make some profit. But if you don't care that much about money, I suggest to get your level up faster that you stick with catching Trout and Salmon with Fly Fishing. Just wait, if you get your fishing a little higher you will soon be making millions!Good job and if you are a member and have 68 fishing, you can now enter the Fishing Guild!

Nonmembers:Levels 60-99(or 68-99)

You will now need a Lobster Pot. No bait is required to catch Lobsters, so head over to Musa Point on Karamja and start catching Lobsters until level 99. Bring a little bit of money because for one trip there it costs 30gp.(60gp for a trip and back to the bank in Falador)Important: If you want to make a lot of money, do NOT cook your Lobsters! The difference between one Lobster that is cooked and uncooked is 70-80gp! You will not burn Lobsters very much at cooking level 65, but to never burn them at all you will need cooking level 74. If you sell your uncooked Lobsters once you have 99 fishing you will get around 30-38 million gp depending on if you cooked them or not and what the current market price is. Congratulations, you now have a ton of money, and you're one of the best fishers in Runescape!

Members:Levels 68-85(or 60-85)

You will be fishing Lobsters, so you will need a Lobster Pot. If you have 68 fishing, go to the Fishing Guild and start catching some Lobsters. If you do not yet have 68 fishing, you should either catch Trout and Salmon, or you should catch Lobsters at Musa Point, Catherby, or Jatizso if you've completed The Fremennik Isles quest. Once you have 85 fishing and you have sold your Lobsters, you will have made about 8 million gp if you didnt cook your lobsters! You can cook all your lobsters succesfully if you have cooking 68 and Cooking Gauntlets. Well done! You now have quite a lot of money, and a high fishing level!

Members:Levels 85-99(if you completed the Swan Song quest)

You will now be catching Monkfish with an ordinary fishing net.(same thing you catch shrimp with)You can catch monkfish at level 62, but it's very slow then and now that you have 85 fishing you can catch them at a lot faster rate. Get your fishing stuff, and head over to the Piscatoris Fishing Colony! Once you have 99 fishing then go and sell your monkfish. Congratulations! You now have 99 fishing and if you sold your monkfish cooked about 24 million gp and if you sold them raw you will have about 28 million gp!

Members:Levels 85-99(Shark Fishing)

You will be catching Sharks. Important: If you do this method you will get more than 2x more money, but do NOT do this if you are impatient. Sharks are hard to catch in your harpoon and you might not catch some. To catch Sharks you will need a Harpoon and you should go to either the Fishing Guild or to Jatizso if you completed The Fremennik Isles. Sharks are worth more cooked than raw but do not attempt to cook them unless you are wearing Cooking Gauntlets and have 94 cooking! You can sell your cooked Sharks and get around 80 million gp! If you sell your raw ones you will get about 67 million gp! Congratulations! You are now filthy rich and have 99 fishing!

Members:The Fishing Guild

You can enter the Fishing Guild if you have 68 fishing. It is located north of East Ardougne and west of the Ranging Guild. You can catch Lobsters there, and also Tuna, Swordfish, and Shark! The Fishing Guild also has a bank inside and a place where you can cook your catch nearby!

Members:The Fishing Skillcape

If you have 99 fishing, grab 99,000gp out of your bank and head over to the Fishing Guild! There will be a Master Fisher just outside of the door to the entrance. He is wearing a Fishing Skillcape. Talk to him and you can purchase a Fishing Skillcape with the money you have! Well done! You now have an awesome Fishing Skillcape to show the Runescape world your 99 fishing achievment!Note about all Skillcapes: Once you have a second Skillcape the first one and the second one will automatically become trimmed!

The Mining Guide

Mining

Foreword

Mining is a hard skill to train. Some think it is boring, or pointless. At level 85, however, it is not. Runite comes along, being the best way to make money in THE ENTIRE GAME. 1 Runite ore is around 15,000gp. That means 67 Runite ore is 1,000,000gp! That isn't even 3 full inventories! At first, the skill may seem boring and pointless, but in the end, the rewards are great. Mining is tedious, speaking that I myself have 77 Mining, but don't give up.

Levels 1-21(the easy stage)

Head over to the Grand Exchange, and bring around 1,400gp. Now buy a Steel Pickaxe and a Mithril Pickaxe. Go back to Lumbridge, through the cemetery(located in the Southern area). Now, go South, following the dirt trail until you reach a Mining Site. Talk to the man there, and he will give you a Bronze Pickaxe. Copper and Tin are located here. You could mine copper and tin if you want to raise your Smithing(by making bronze) or, if you want a little bit of profit, you could only mine copper. It is around 80gp each, so not a big way to make money here. Once you are Mining level 6, drop the Bronze Pickaxe and use your steel one. Mining here should go faster now. Once you are at level 21 Mining, drop or sell the Steel Pickaxe and you can now use the Mithril Pickaxe. Good job, but this is only the beginning!

Levels 21-41(the slightly boring part)

Choice 1: Al-Kharid Mine | Choice 2: Dwarven Mines

You will now be mining iron. This is where the profit will start to add up more. Go to the Grand Exchange with around 22,000gp. There you should buy an Adamant Pickaxe and a Rune Pickaxe.

Choice 1: You will need Combat Level 30 or higher so that the Scorpions that are there will not attack you. Bring your Mithril Pickaxe and be sure to have a low character weight. There are a few good spots here to mine iron, and if it gets crowded, try going on a German world or on World 5. You will be banking in the Al-Kharid bank.

Choice 2: Dwarven Mines

You will also need Combat Level 30 or higher, but this mine is more dangerous. If you go in deeper, there are King Scorpions who will attack you until you are around Combat Level 70! There are more good spots to mine iron in here, and hack away. You should bank in the Eastern Falador bank. To get there go in deep in the mine, by the King Scorpions, and climb up the stairs. You will be near the bank. Use the same advice. Switch to a German world or go to World 5 if it is too crowded.

Once you have 31 Mining, switch over to your Adamant Pickaxe. The Iron should go faster now. Now keep on going until 41 Mining. Good job, now you can use the Rune Pickaxe and you should have 1,033 iron. That will sell for a little over 100,000gp, since iron is about 100gp each.

Levels 41-60(one of the long stretches)

Yeah, it's iron again. "Why not coal?" you might ask, and this is why: The requirement to mine coal is level 30 Mining. But the spots are always crowded, and it takes forever to mine it before level 60. You can mine it at either spot, and by now mining iron should go by pretty fast. Just hack away until you make it to level 60. Again, be sure to bank your iron. Ok, very nice job so far! You should have 6,645 iron. This is where the better money comes in. When you sell it, you should get around 664,500gp!

Nonmembers:Levels 60-99(the iron way, for faster xp)

Iron? Again? This must be crazy, right? Well, you have the same 2 choices of where to mine. Mining iron will be extremely fast now. You will even get it with one swing occaisionally! Keep going for 99 Mining! Congratulations! You are now a master of the Mining skill! You have endured the long levels! You should have 364,592 iron in your bank! When you sell it, you should get around 36,459,200gp! Now, you are very rich indeed, and you should go over to the Mining Guild entrance, in Falador, to claim your well earned Mining Skillcape!

Nonmembers:Levels 60-99(the coal way, for more money)

Here is something new, coal! Keep in mind this method will get you a lot more money than if you got 99 using iron. You are going to be mining in the Mining Guild(explained below), so head on over there and get mining! You should bank in the Eastern Falador bank. Coal will mine a lot faster now than if you gave it a try earlier on. It might still seem a little slow, but once you get into the 70's it will be pretty fast. Keep going for 99 Mining! Congratulations! You are now a master of the Mining skill! You have endured the long levels! You should have 255,214 coal in your bank. Once you sell it, you will get a whopping 43,386,380gp!

Members:Levels 60-99(granite powermining)

You will be powermining granite. Powermining is when you do not bank your ores, meaning you drop them on the ground. This way is the best way to get mining xp in the game, being at level 65 you can get 50,000 xp per hour! Granite gives more experience than iron and usually more than coal(xp varies depending on how much you mined). Here is a helpful guide just for this granite method. Click on "Powermining Granite". Unfortunately this method will make you no money whatsoever. But if you are really into mining and are all for xp, go right ahead.

The Mining Guild

You can enter the Mining Guild if you have 60 Mining, or 59 with a Dwarven Stout. I would not recommend going in until you have 60 Mining. It is located in Falador, a little bit south of the Eastern Falador bank. Inside there are 5 Mithril rocks, and 37 coal rocks. This is a great place for nonmembers and members to mine. It is usually crowded, so I would recommend going to World 5 to mine here, because it is one of the best worlds for mining.

Members:The Mining Skillcape

If you have 99 Mining, grab 99,000gp out of the bank and head over to the Mining Guild! By the ladders that lead down will be a dwarf wearing the Mining Skillcape. Talk to him, and you can claim your reward for 99,000gp! You now are among the best miners in all of Runescape. In fact, the Mining Skillcape is a rare achievement! Good job, and now you have your awesome skillcape to show Runescape your very hard worked 99 Mining achievement! Note about all Skillcapes: Once you have a second Skillcape the first one and the second one will automatically become trimmed!
